SIMPLE PAST TENSE

 TENSE



Example :

Present
  1. I play (Present tense)
  2. I am playing (Present continuous tense)
  3. I have played (Present prefect)
  4. I have been playing (Present Prefect continuous)

Past 
  1. I played (Past tense)
  2. I was playing (Past continuous tense)
  3. I had played (Past prefect)
  4. I had been played (Past continuous prefect )

Future
  1. I will play (Future tense)
  2. I will be playing (Future continuous tense)
  3. I will have played (Future perfect)
  4. I will have been playing (Future perfect continuous)



SIMPLE PAST TENSE


a. The Simple Past Tense

Use the simple past tense to talk about things that happened in the pas. The simple past tense is also used to talk about things that happeneed in a stories, such as narrative text.

Example :
  1. Dinosaurus lived millions of years ago.
  2. Pinocchio's node grew longer everytime he told a lie
  3. The wicked Queen gave Snow White a poisoned apple.
To form the simple past tense like this


b. Regular Verb 

The simple past tense of most verbs end in-ed. These verbs are called regular verbs.

Example :
  1. Mom opened the door for us.
  2. Azzam visited me last month.
  3. Aozora walked on this street.

c. Irregular Verb

The simple past form of some verbs does not end in-ed. Such verbs are called irregular verbs. The simple past tense of some irregular verbs does not change the form.



Example :

1. Dwi wrote a letter to his friend.
2. Mother read a newspaper.
3. She chose to be a teacher.







d. To be Simple Past Tense

The verbs was and were are also forms of the verb be. Was is the simple past tense of am and is are used with the pronouns I, He, She, and It, and with singular nouns.

Example :
  1. Beethoven was a German composer.
  2. Sue was at the library this morning.
  3. It was very wet on monday.
For Example :

Nominal Sentence 
  1. (+) : I was late school yesterday
  2. (-)  : I was not late school yesterday
  3. (?) :  Was I late school yesterday ?

Verbal Sentence
  1. (+) : I drunk a glass of tea
  2. (-)  : I did not drink a glass of tea
  3. (?) :  Did I drink a glass of tea ?
